NoPalm Ingredients has partnered with NIZO to establish the first yeast oil demonstration factory at the Food Innovation Campus in Ede, the Netherlands. This facility represents a significant milestone in scaling sustainable oil production from lab-scale research to industrial-level commercialisation.
Scaling Sustainable Yeast Oil
The new demonstration facility will consolidate all aspects of yeast oil production—from laboratory development to industrial demonstration—under one roof. Initial output is expected to reach several hundred tonnes per year, with plans to expand capacity to more than 1,200 tonnes annually by 2028.
Driving Innovation in Food & Beverage Life Sciences
Yeast oil is a sustainable alternative to traditional palm oil, offering opportunities to reduce deforestation, biodiversity loss, and carbon emissions. The collaboration between NoPalm Ingredients and NIZO reflects growing momentum in precision fermentation and its role in reshaping the global food system.
From Research to Commercialisation
The partnership underscores the Netherlands’ leadership in food innovation, with the Food Innovation Campus providing the infrastructure for companies to accelerate product development. By bridging the gap between science and scalable production, this initiative supports the wider protein and ingredient transition in the food & beverage sector.
